Dominican Republic Mission Trip - February 2025: Update #3

Glenda Stewart

God provided a third beautiful day in the Dominican Republic for the Mars Hill team. We woke to breakfast on the patio (they do not have an egg shortage here). God provided a clear day and temperatures that range from the mid 70s to the mid 80s with a wonder breeze.

After breakfast, Phil led us through the main focus of the teaching and then off to the baseball field for more ball. Thankfully today they decided to play kick ball instead of baseball. It is much easier to kick a soccer size ball compared to hitting a ‘ball’ (a blue puck-like thing they call a bottle cap) and a ‘bat’ the size of the handle of a broom stick.

As with all FCA activities, they never miss an opportunity to share the gospel. Today was no exception. We had the privilege of hearing from Matt and the testimony of one of our guides and member of the FCA Dominican staff, Pomponio.  Pomponio grew up here in the DR, so he relates to the boys on a personal level.

Each day one of our team shares a devotion usually on the bus traveling from one place to another. Tim did double duty today. Not only did he share a devotion with our team but he gave his testimony to the girls during worship.

Phil taught the girls about growing in their relationship with Christ through reading the Bible. Our groups were divided by age so some groups were able to go deeper into the discussion than others. However, whether it was a deep conversation or teaching them the parts of the Bible and how to find a verse, a foundation was laid for future study. The girls started to open up more as they got to know us better with conversations flowing.

One of the highlights has been several of the mothers and grandmothers of the girls joining us during this camp. It has been a tremendous opportunity to disciple the ones who will stay here to disciple these girls after we are home. As exciting as it is for us being here,  it is more exciting to know that the foundation we are laying will continue after we are home.

Today one of the prompts that we asked the girls was ‘share your testimony of your early days of Bible reading and how the Lord has grown you to where you are now’. How would you answer that question?

Thank you to Mars Hill for continuing to pray and support this mission team and the tremendous ministry being done by FCA Dominican Republic. —Glenda Stewart
