Dominican Republic Mission Trip - February 2025: Update #1

Laura Dunn

Day one began with a team meeting to discuss and prepare for our day and then personal quiet time with the Lord in prayer. Then we all loaded up on the bus to go see firsthand one of FCA's baseball ministries here. We got to meet and interact with the boys who come to train at this particular field every day. Michael was able to share the gospel with the whole team and really challenge them with what it looks like to follow Christ as a baseball player. And then we all joined in for a game of baseball with the boys. It was a little tricky for us Americans as they train with long thin sticks for bats and a small plastic disc for the ball!

After lunch, we were off to set up for the girls camp and meet our precious girls for the first time. Once the girls arrived, we had them split into 8 different groups by age (which ranged from 6 to 17 years old). Two people from our team were assigned to each group and will be their leaders for the whole week. Each group also has a translator and a female helper from their community. We played large group games, had worship time, heard two amazing messages from Phil (completely in Spanish with no translator)! The messages were laying the foundation for our theme this week of "relationships" and specifically what it means and looks like to have a relationship with Jesus. After each session of teaching and worship, we met together in our groups to get to know the girls and help them process what they are learning in the big group sessions.

It was definitely a full day and we are excited to see what the Lord will do in and through us as we continue to meet, challenge and encourage these young Dominican boys and girls. We are so grateful to be here and for the prayers and support of our Mars Hill family! —Laura Dunn
