We kicked off the trip early with a 7:00 AM meetup at the Atlanta airport. After checking bags and getting through security, the team grabbed some breakfast and had a bit of time to chat before boarding. Our flight took off shortly after 10:00 AM without any issues. A few naps, podcasts, and conversations later, we landed in Costa Rica on time and ready to get moving.

After getting through customs, we met our driver Pablo. He was solid from the start—friendly, sharp, and had a deep knowledge of the area. During the drive, he pointed out different crops like sugarcane and coffee, gave us some background on the region, and showed us landmarks like the Poás volcano. He let us stop at a massive waterfall along the way, which was moving heavily due to the rainy season. We also grabbed some local pastries before getting back on the road and finishing the drive.

We got to the hotel in the late afternoon, unpacked quick, and headed out again, this time to Pastor Esteban’s house. His family had dinner ready for us after the long travel day. After we ate, Esteban shared how the church got started and what they’re focused on now. It was helpful to hear where things stand and how we’ll be able to plug in. A good way to get our heads in the right place before the work starts.

The day was long but smooth. Everyone’s settled in and the team’s in a good spot. Looking forward to jumping in tomorrow and getting to it. —Caleb Pratt
